  • 1AF team directs air travel for arriving Afghan friends, allies

    THIS VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS THE EFFORTS OF THE TEAM established by 1AF to manage air travel for Afghans landing at Washington Dulles International Airport. The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), through U.S. Northern Command and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening & general support for at least 50,000 Afghans at suitable facilities.

  • High Rollers’ MAFFS team surpassed all expectations through the second busiest season in the 49-year history

    The Nevada Air National Guard Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) crews finished up their 89-day MAFFS activation Sept. 22, 2021. They flew a total of 330 sorties and dropped 8,181,017 pounds of retardant (912,042 gallons). This was 36 percent of the total gallons dropped from the four-unit (8 aircraft) Air Expeditionary Group during this fire year. The remaining units finished their 96-day activation on Sept. 29.
  • U.S. participates in FAMEX 2021 air show in Mexico

    Two Air Force aircraft and over 20 Airmen participated in the Feria Aeroespacial México (FAMEX), or the Mexico Aerospace Fair, September 22-25, at Base Aérea No.1 de Santa Lucía, Mexico.
  • MAFFS crews wrap up second-busiest fire season in 49-year history

    With a mix of favorable weather conditions in the western U.S. reducing wildfire activity and the increased availability of commercial airtankers, the USDA Forest Service released the final four U.S Air Force C-130 Modular Aircraft Firefighting System-equipped C-130 aircraft Sept. 29 marking the end of a 96-day support effort.
  • 1AF's Air Force Auxiliary Completes Louisiana Aerial Photo Mission

    Civil Air Patrol’s Louisiana Wing flew the last two aerial sorties of its request for assistance to photograph Hurricane Ida-impacted lands and waterways late last week. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness requested the images to use in assessing damage from the Category 4 storm, which made landfall Aug. 29 on the Gulf Coast.
  • Edwards AFB chaplains to test CAP partnership, virtual services

    412th Test Wing leadership announced a partnership with the Civil Air Patrol to provide more chaplains to the Wing and to test a new virtual reality-based counseling platform at Edwards Air Force Base, California, Sept. 10.
  • Chaplains from 1AF's auxiliary join Religious Support Teams, aid active duty

    The U.S. Air Force is charged with meeting the needs of its airmen and civilian employees in many ways, including spiritually and emotionally. When Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Michael Bram of Edwards Air Force Base wanted to ensure these individuals’ spiritual needs are being met, he looked to the Air Force’s Total Force partner, Civil Air Patrol.
  • Reserve C-130 aerial firefighting teams fly during second busiest wildfire season

    The 302nd Airlift Wing has three C-130 aircraft flying sorties out of McClellan Air Tanker Base this year in Sacramento County, California, performing an aerial firefighting mission unique within the Air Force Reserve. Since first being activated on July 20, the 302 AW has been working together with other military aircraft from Nevada Air National Guard’s 152 AW, Wyoming ANG’s 153 AW, and California ANG’s 146 AW to drop millions of gallons of fire retardant in support of fire suppression efforts in California.
