  • High Rollers’ MAFFS teams on course to surpass last year’s fire year totals at the half-way point through the fire year

    The Nevada Air National Guard is only half-way through the fire year and already has amassed 434 drops with 1.2M gallons of retardant as of August 5, 2021. The totals from the entire last year’s fire year were 489 drops and 1.3M gallons of retardant. Earlier last month, the High Rollers’ participation in the MAFFS mission this year was extended to Aug. 26 at the request of the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).
  • More USAF aircraft added to fight west coast fires

    Two additional U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft are scheduled to join the Department of Defense’s effort for wildland fire fighting in western states today as requested by the USDA Forest Service, bringing the number to five C-130 military aircraft activated.
  • 152nd Airlift Wing “High Rollers” extended on MAFFS duty as fires continue burning across western states

    The Nevada Air National Guard’s participation in the MAFFS mission this year has been extended to Aug. 26 at the request of the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). There will also be two additional C-130 aircraft and aircrew added to the mission for a total of five military C-130 aircraft activated. The additional aircraft--one from the Wyoming Air National Guard and the other from the Air Force Reserve in Colorado--will arrive July 20.
  • Maine Air National Guard Supports NORAD Exercise

    Members of the Maine Air National Guard recently supported the North American Aerospace Defense Command's (NORAD) Exercise Amalgam Dart 21-1 to retain and improve readiness to defend North America across all approaches. To support this effort the 265th Combat Communications Squadron was tasked with supplying tactical communication networks at four geographically separated locations spanning the Arctic. Exercise Amalgam Dart ran from June 10-18, 2021, with operations ranging across the Arctic from the Beaufort Sea to Thule, Greenland. Amalgam Dart 21-1 provided NORAD the opportunity to hone continental defense skills as Canadian and U.S. forces operated together in the Arctic. Involving all three NORAD regions (Alaskan, Canadian, and Continental U.S.) the exercise featured Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18s, CC-150Ts, CC-130s, CH-146s, CH-149s, and a CP-140; and U.S. Air Force B-52s, F-22s, F-16s, KC-135s, KC-10s, and E-3s.
  • 101st Air & Space Operations Group welcomes new commander

    The 101st Air and Space Operations Group welcomed a new commander during a ceremony held here on July 14, 2021. The age old military tradition of passing the flag during the ceremony symbolized the change in leadership as Col. Randolph Lake assumed command of the 101st AOG from Col. Matthew Jones. The 101st AOG change of command was presided over by Brig. Gen. Michael Valle, Florida National Guard’s Assistant Adjutant General (Air) and Florida Air National Guard commander.

    JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - The Canadian Detachment at the Western Air Defense Sector officially changed command July 8. Royal Canadian Air Force Lt. Col. Jody Hanson assumed command from RCAF Lt. Col. Michael Fawcett, who finished a three-year tour of duty as the Canadian Detachment commanding officer. Hanson’s responsibilities will include leading the 15-member Canadian Detachment and serving as the director of exercise, plans and requirements.
