  • 100th CAP cadet earns his ‘wings’ — a new AF Auxiliary milestone

    Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Andrew Wilson, seen here in the Civil Air Patrol aircraft he used to take his early flight training, is the 100th CAP cadet to receive his private pilot certificate through the Cadet Wings program. Wilson, 18, earned his wings following a check ride on July 4 at the San Marcos Regional Airport, officially becoming the 100th graduate of the program.
  • Third U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft joins DoD efforts for wildland fire fighting

    A third U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft joined the Department of Defense’s efforts for wildland fire fighting in Western states, as requested by the USDA Forest Service. The air tanker arrived at McClellan Airbase in Sacramento, Calif., yesterday, and made three of the 13 retardant drops for the day.

    Two U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft equipped with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems (MAFFS) began wildland firefighting operations in support of the National Interagency Fire Center over the Lava Fire in northern California Saturday, and have dropped nearly 20,000 gallons of fire retardant to date.

The meeting brought together a dozen leaders, operators and technical experts from the AMOC, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and the Air Force Research Lab – Rome Research Site to discuss “whole-of-government” approaches and solutions to several common challenges. In addition to the discussion, the group received an hour-long operational overview in EADS Battle Control Center.
