  • NORAD conducts live-fly air defense exercise ahead of manned space launch

    The North American Aerospace Defense Command, together with interagency partners, are preparing for next week’s space launch by conducting an air defense exercise over Cape Canaveral, Florida scheduled for November 10, with flights between 3-4 p.m. EST. Aircraft participating in the exercise include U.S. Air Force F-16 aircraft, a Custom and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations Super King Air 350, and a Civil Air Patrol Cessna C182 aircraft. Some portions of the exercise may involve flights from approximately 7,500 feet and may be visible from the ground. If weather prevents these scheduled flights, the exercise will be cancelled.

    A news video documenting Air Force Aerial Spray operations in southern Louisiana following Hurricanes Laura and Delta. Eighty-Five Reserve Citizen Airmen from the 910th Airlift Wing, Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, have been operating from Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, since Oct. 20 and has treated nearly 900,000 acres of the more than one million acres assigned to them by FEMA. AFNORTH, the Air Force component of U.S. Northern Command activated the 910th to assist civil authorities in Louisiana.

    U.S. Air Force C-130H Hercules aircraft, equipped with Modular Aerial Spray Systems (MASS), and approximately 85 Reserve Citizen Airmen from the 910th Airlift Wing, Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, deployed to Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, to conduct mosquito control aerial spray missions over southern Louisiana.

    C-130 Hercules aircraft assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Vienna, Ohio, taxis on the flight line at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Oct. 19, 2020. The AFRC’s 910th AW came to Barksdale to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) by providing unique aerial spray capability to assist with pest insect control efforts following recent hurricanes in Louisiana.
  • ACC to conduct experiment testing agility and lead wing concepts during AGILE FLAG 21-1

    Air Combat Command will conduct an experiment known as Agile Flag 21-1 from Oct. 21-29 to test agile combat employment and a new lead wing deployment concept. During Agile Flag 21-1, the 366th Fighter Wing from Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, will test its ability to deploy as a lead Air Expeditionary Wing with a wing-level air staff. The unit will employ mission generation, command and control, and base operating support elements from its main operating base at Tyndall AFB, Florida, while supporting a forward operating base at Hurlburt Field, Florida, and a contingency location at Eglin AFB, Florida.

  • AFNORTH helps save 130 lives in FY20 through CAP

    Civil Air Patrol finished fiscal 2020 with 130 lives saved, making it one of the most productive years ever for the U.S. Air Force auxiliary’s search and rescue efforts. Civil Air Patrol, in its role as the Air Force auxiliary, conducts about 90% of all search operations within the contiguous United States as assigned by Air Forces Northern’s Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC).
