Lt. Gen. William Etter, Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region – 1st Air Force (Air Forces Northern) commander, presents his commander’s coin for recognition of superior performance to Civil Air Patrol Cadet/Colonel Iriolexis Encalada, Pines-Miramar Cadet Squadron, during a CAP cadet tour of the 601st Air Operations Center Wednesday. Encalada distinguished herself as the newest Carl A. Spaatz Award recipient in CAP’s Florida Wing, an achievement accomplished by less than one percent of cadets in the program. Encalada and the other cadets were visiting the 601st AOC as part of their annual week-long winter encampment event designed provide an in-depth orientation to the Civil Air Patrol and the United States Air Force. She also served as the cadet commander of the encampment. (Air Force Photo Released/Mary McHale)
