During exercises, contingencies and Defense Support to Civil Authorities operations, rapid access to communications assets can mean the difference between success and failure.

Enter the 5th Combat Communications Group from Robins AFB, GA. On August 28, group members visited the area to demonstrate first hand the assets they could provide incident commanders and other first responders during an operation. They set up the demonstration in an area outside of the Air Force Research Laboratory.

"The 5th Combat Communications Group provided field demonstrations of the Rapid Access Package (RAP) and Disaster Response Team (DART) Package," said Maj. Roderick Nettles, AFNORTH Cyber Operations. "These packages provide activation of voice and data services to support disaster relief contingencies and other scenarios as tasked."

Visitors to the demonstrations included Lt. Gen. William Etter, Air Forces Northern commander. As he toured each demonstration station, the Airmen briefed him on the asset's variety of capabilities, limitations, availability timelines and what personnel would be required. Individuals from other base agencies also toured the stations.
Airmen from the 5th CCG were enthusiastic about showcasing their capabilities at Tyndall.

"These Airmen live to support communication needs in the field," said Capt. Luis A. Oquendo-Class, 53rd Combat Communications Squadron Director of Operations. "They love to be out here working hard to demonstrate all they can bring to the table when communications are critical."
