AFNORTH ready for Tropical Storm Alberto

  • Published
As Tropical Storm Alberto moves on to Florida's northeast Gulf Coast, AFNORTH is standing ready to provide Air Force support to civil authorities if requested.

"I'm confident close cooperation between military and civilian authorities will allow us to respond quickly if we're called upon," said Maj. Gen. M. Scott Mayes, AFNORTH commander. "Preparation and teamwork are vital to our success."

AFNORTH provided Air Force relief and recovery resources along the Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf Coast through Joint Task Force Katrina last year. AFNORTH is Northern Command's air component organization responsible for providing Air Force forces for all domestic contingencies and joint task force civil support operations.

"We've trained hard and we're prepared for whatever mission we may be tasked with and wherever it takes us," said General Mayes. "When we're called upon, we're ready to act - and act fast."
