The 601st Air and Space Operations Center's Joint Personnel Recovery Center continues to make preparations with states in the potential path of Hurricane Gustav.

As Gustav makes its way through the Gulf of Mexico, the JPRC has requested each state's search and rescue plan.

"By knowing what assets they have available, we can tailor our Department of Defense support to better meet their needs," said Navy Lt. Cmdr. Chris Conley, JPRC watch officer. "Right now we are getting our hands around the big picture. As the storm gets closer, we will have a better idea of what JPRC resources are needed."

Located at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., the JPRC focuses specifically on large-scale search and rescue operations in the event of a hurricane or natural disaster. When a disaster occurs, the JPRC activates and coordinates the search and rescue actions of all rescue aircraft in the disaster area to improve the efficiency of rescue operations and reduce the potential for mishaps.
