First Air Force takes command of Det 3 rescuers as part of new Space Command mission

Ceremony for the Change of Command and Redesignation of Detachment 3, formerly of Space Launch Delta 45 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station July 15.. Det 3, new to 1AF, is the only full-time unit in the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) that trains for/orchestrates the recovery, retrieval & rescue of astronauts anywhere around the globe. They are a United States Air Force rescue unit, which also helps U.S. Space Command through 1AF with human spaceflight rescue efforts.
