AFNORTH gives CAP awards

Among awards given the final night of Civil Air Patrol’s 2014 National Conference August 14-16 in Las Vegas, was the Air Forces Northern Commander’s Meritorious Service Award for the most outstanding CAP support of an event. This year, the award recognized the combined efforts of the North Carolina CAP wing and South Carolina CAP wing. Together, they were recognized for their exemplary support of a U.S. Marine Corps Unmanned Aerial System Airspace Integration Exercise at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. during in August, 2013. Team Tyndall recognizes two from AFNORTH

Col. Derek France, 325th Fighter Wing commander, congratulates Todd Bailey, an operations training specialist assigned to Air Forces Northern’s Operations Directorate, on his Team Tyndall-level award for Tenant Unit Civilian of the Quarter, Category II. On the other side of Bailey is 325th FW Command Chief Master Sgt. Christoper Lantagne. Bailey was lauded for his exceptional skills managing readiness issues and his ongoing commitment to higher education, recently earning academic distinction finishing among the top 25 percent of his class. Also selected for a Team Tyndall-level award in the Company Grade Officer of the Quarter category was Capt. Matthew Shemo, a search and rescue duty officer with the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center who was unable to attend the ceremony. He was recognized for his superb management of more than 1300 potential distress cases and for completion of a rigorous Firefighter, First Responder and CPR course which resulted in his certification as State of Florida Firefighter.
