JOHN O GRIFFIN

John O.Griffin is the Chief of Staff for Continental United States North American Aerospace Defense Command Region (CONR) - First Air Force (Air Forces Northern).  CONR-1AF (AFNORTH) is a USAF warfighting headquarters and Air Combat Command Numbered Air Force responsible for employing air and space power forces for NORAD and U.S. Northern Command's Homeland Defense and Civil Support missions.  Mr. Griffin is a key advisor and authoritative consultant to senior staff, with  oversight to a portfolio of Homeland Defense, Air Force Support to Civil Authorities and Theater Security Cooperation programs within 1st Air Force and interagency partners.  He serves as the Command Element's senior civilian envoy to military, federal and civilian agencies within federal, state and local communities.

Mr. Griffin has held positions in both the military and civil sector, including 1st Air Force as Executive Director and A5 Deputy Director for Strategic Plans, Policy and International Affairs.  Prior to joining 1st Air Force, Colonel Griffin, USAF, (Retired), served as an officer in the Air National Guard and US Air Force.  His leadership positions include combat tours as a Wing, Operations and Logistics Commander. His 30-year Air Force career includes a variety of aircraft and commands, including 4,500 hours flying fighter, mobility and civil missions.  Mr. Griffin graduated from Clemson University in 1978 and received a Master's Degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College in 2005.  Colonel Griffin retired in June 2008 as wing commander, 168th Air Refueling Wing, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.
